Japan's entertainment industry recently witnessed a groundbreaking development with the debut of its first AI adult video (AV) actress, Mika Ai (木花愛). Garnering a significant following of 12,000 on Instagram, Mika Ai quickly became a subject of intrigue and anticipation among fans of the genre.

The Girl Behind The AI Branding

Developed by L-Promotion, a production company known for its entertainment ventures, Kihana Ai represents a unique blend of technology and traditional AV production. Standing at 165 cm with striking measurements of 88G/55/83, she has been touted for her superior facial features and elongated physique, setting her apart from typical AI-generated characters. The quality of her appearance, especially as seen on Instagram, has been praised for its high-quality rendering, a step above standard AI outputs.

Kihana  Ai's debut work was released on December 22, available both as a digital download on DMM, a popular Japanese online platform, and as a physical DVD in stores. However, the release met with mixed reactions, particularly on DMM, where it received an average rating of only 3 out of 5. Viewers criticized the production, revealing that the film was initially shot with a real actress and later superimposed with an AI-generated face, a technique similar to Deepfake videos. This approach resulted in Mika Ai often staring unnaturally at the camera with limited facial expressions, which some viewers found unsettling.

The controversy deepened with the revelation that L-Promotion had previously recruited AI models through its official website, appealing to women who preferred to remain anonymous. These individuals provided their hair, body contours, and voice for the production, onto which Mika Ai's AI-generated face was superimposed. This method deviated significantly from the expectations of a fully AI-generated AV actress, leading to disappointment and frustration among consumers who felt misled by the marketing strategy.
